DC sexual abuse victims can hold their offenders accountable and obtain justice through sexual abuse lawsuits
The DC Council has passed a new bill which will aid DC sexual abuse victims in their fight for justice.
The New Bill
On December 4th, The Sexual Abuse Statute of Limitations Elimination Amendment Act passed, extending the statute of limitations in civil sexual abuse cases to the age of 40 (or 5 years from when the victim knew or should have known of the abuse; whichever is later) according to the DC Trial Lawyers Association. This bill also provides a 2-year window for DC sexual abuse victims to bring new cases that were barred under the prior statute. If you or a loved one has been a victim of sexual abuse, an attorney may be able to help you.
